Youth Service Providers - ME101

ME101 is a free, virtual, educational program for youth service workers
The ‘Menstrual equity 101/Equité menstruelle 101’ (ME101) program, consists of a live 90-minute virtual workshop, and access to three self-paced courses hosted on an innovative digital learning hub called CHARMS. This program has been designed for and implemented among youth service providers (such as teachers, counsellors, sexual health educators, peer educators, coaches etc.) in Canada.

The ME101 program is designed to address menstrual stigma and period poverty involves an 'upstream approach', empowering individuals who engage with youth to incorporate menstrual equity into their everyday work. The education program integrates a live workshop and a self-paced course component, ensuring that our programming establishes a strong foundation while remaining adaptable for continued learning.

Please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions for more information.

This program has been funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada, and delivered in partnership with Food Banks Canada.

Resources for Teachers

Slide deck and speaker notes for grades 5-7
A team of UBC students have developed a slide deck and speaker notes in collaboration with Free Periods Canada. After researching sexual health education delivery in BC for the Map the System research competition and presenting their research at Oxford University, they felt the need to create positive change to improve the delivery of sex-ed in BC. This slide deck aims to provide teachers and other youth service providers with a comprehensive resource to deliver a 1 hour lesson to Grade 5-7 students regarding menstruation. It is based on the content provided in Free Period Canada’s ‘Period 101 course’. It provides an overview of menstruation and incorporates videos and discussion questions to provide an interactive learning experience.

Instructions for viewing the slide deck:
1. Click on the link below to access the slide deck via Google Drive
2. Feel free to read the Teacher Guide to learn more about how to use the slide deck, the purpose of the lesson, and the BC curriculum content learning standards that are covered.
3. To access the slide deck, please click the three vertical dots to the right of the file name. Click download.
4. Once downloaded, open the slide deck in Microsoft PowerPoint.Click on ‘presenter view’ to see the slides and speaker notes simultaneously. If you do not want to use the speaker notes, click ‘play from the start’ to begin.

This project has been funded by the Apprenticing with a Problem Grant and supported by Map the System Canada, ATCO and the Institute for Community Prosperity.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please email systemsthinking.sexed@gmail.com and this team will be happy to get back to you.
