About Free Periods Canada

Free Periods Canada (FPC) is a non-profit organization that is on a mission to make menstrual health equitable in Canada. We work with various organizations in an effort to break taboos and end the stigma surrounding menstruation.

The Project

Since 2023, FPC has been offering an educational workshop called Menstrual Equity 101 (ME101). This program was designed for and implemented among youth service providers (e.g., teachers, counsellors, sexual health educators, peer educators, coaches etc.) across Canada to address menstrual stigma and period poverty, empowering individuals who engage with youth to incorporate menstrual equity into their everyday work.

In continuing to expand on this programming, we wanted to ensure that our community was engaged in the “next steps.” A common suggestion from participants was the creation of a menstrual health workbook to support youth service providers in facilitating conversations about menstrual health more effectively. In response, we aim to develop this workbook in the form of a zine and distribute it widely among youth service providers, enhancing their ability to deliver comprehensive and accessible menstrual health education to the youth they serve. The zine will be co-designed with youth.

The graphic designer will work closely with our Education Coordinator, Qwisun Yoon-Potkins.

The application form will be open till January 15, 2025. We will invite selected individuals to meet with our team for a brief interview and portfolio review. We plan to finalize the contract by the end of February. Design work will begin in early March, and must be completed by June.
